Why do children knows the answer of 2+3 but don't know 3+2? You may have noticed I didn't use the word "calculate".

So what went wrong?

The problem is, children nowadays know how to recite answers instead of thinking it with logic. For example, when we put 3 candies with 2 candies, we will know there are 5 candies by calculation. However, as the time goes by, children's reaction to numbers and equations is just memorizing without calculating by themselves. Your kid may always tell you "I don't know. Give me the answers."

Teaching children to solve math probems with math concepts and calculation is actually training their logic. It is extremely crucial to all of their future studies.

It affects children's habits on doing math if we let them do a lot of math exercise and which most of them requires high speed. These exercise results in children's over-relying on memorizing the answers. Parents also pay too much attention on dealing with those exercise and give up the most important logic flow capability. Memorizing a series of answers and not using any logic to calculate Math is not a good thing to children's IQ either future years.

懂得 2+3 答案的小朋友，為什麼不懂得 3+2答案？

我很小心寫以上的句子，儘量避免用「計算」這個字眼。

究竟發生了什麼事?

因為現在很多小朋友都只懂得背誦運算結果，忽略了數學是一種簡單邏輯，例如3粒糖及2粒糖一起，只要懂得順序數數，就能算得出5粒糖。但日子久了，小朋友對着數字的基本反應是背誦，失去了自行「計算」答案的態度，便常常告訴我不知道或直接拿答案。

家長可能不明白教導學生用數學基本概念去解決數學問題，其實是小朋友學習邏輯的基本訓練，對日後所有學習均有重要的影響。

不論家長的原因為何，太早讓小朋友做太大量只求準確運算及運算速度快的功課，讓小朋友過分依賴記憶力，家長又為了幫小朋友應付該類型功課，反而放棄最重要的邏輯推理能力，導致小朋友反而死記硬背一連串運算結果，浪費大腦的邏輯推理能力。
